Girl Crush: Interview with Whinnie Williams

Recently, I came across the opportunity to interview the wonderfully talented singer and song-writer Whinnie Williams. Her Candy coloured Music Videos, Feel good lyrics and carefree 60’s vibe have had me hooked from day one. If that wasn’t enough, I challenge you not to fall in love with her adorable companion and sidekick, miniature poodle Brian.

Whinnie’s debut EP ‘Bad Girl’ is released on October 6th via Night Beach in digital and limited edition 7” vinyl. Pre-order the EP here: http://smarturl.it/badgirlep

C: One of my favourite song’s from your new EP is Oopsy Daisy. The Happy-Go-Lucky melodies in your music nod to both 60’s Mod artists and French Chanteuses such as Bardot. Who are your biggest musical influences?
W: I love The Cardigans, Lana Del Rey, Arctic Monkeys, Bird and the bee, Francouis Hardy, Serge Gainbourge, Kelis and Elvis.

C: What do you currently have on repeat?
W: The Iggy Azelia album.

C: Your music videos are always so beautifully nostalgic and visual- and Brian’s adorable so I’m glad that he’s always a feature. Out of all of your music video’s so far, which was most fun to film?
W: My favourite video to film was 'you dont love me'. We shot it in Hastings in the pouring rain and it was a proper disaster on the day, but it turned out so good in the end. I'd had the idea of shooting a dog love story for ages and everyone thought I was mad, so I was so happy when I found director Robert Muller who actually got it.

C: Your Fashion sense is Iconic, where do you find style inspiration and where do you like to shop?
W: Aww thanks, hmm Im a pretty rubbish girl and dont like shopping really. I like to get a few really nice classic pieces to keep for a long time and then pair them up with something from the high street.

C: What is your most treasured possession?
W: My taxidermy swan called Vera.

C: What do you like to do in your spare time?
W: Im a geek and love to go to flea markets and antique fares. I like collecting things.  Also anything animal related, I'm a frustrated farmer at heart.

C: What has been your biggest accomplishment?
W: My biggest accomplishment this year would be writing 20 songs for my two mix tapes and putting out my first EP.

C: 3 things, that most people don’t know about you?
W: I went to Romania with the charity K-9 Angels this year and rescued a dog, I did a taxidermy course and I was once hypnotised to be able to sing in public.

C: Finally, What Can we expect from Whinnie in the future?
W: Lots more music, more videos and singing on Professor greens new album!
