Elenore and the Clowns

On Thursday 19th June I had my final college catwalk, where myself and fellow students saw the final major collections that we’ve been working on since January hit the runway. My collection: Elenore and the Clowns, is based on clowns and circus freaks; and is inspired by Clown blanc, french mime, Bowie’s pierrot clown and the concept that clowns (being generally so feared) are misunderstood.

This project was by far my favourite college project to research, design and produce from scratch.
For my collection I produced 3 dresses:
Elenore's Dream- A white satin Halter Dress with a marabou trim and clown face print. This was my favourite dress to design and produce for the collection. The clown face print was taken from a sketch I did early on in my sketchbook and the halter shaping is heavily inspired by vintage showgirl costume.
Helter Skelter- A one shoulder dress with red, blue and white cotton ruffles and star embroidery. This dress was influenced by clown collar ruffles and helter skelter fairground rides.
The Face- A white cotton dress with red curly fur sleeves, marabou trim and clown face appliqué. The Face, displays details of a typical clowns wig and make-up and I have used boning in the skirt of the dress to create cheek like curves.

The catwalk went brilliantly. My models walked down the catwalk, with balloons, party hats, and clown like faces to 'Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood' by The Animals.
After putting so much effort into this collection, it was really nice to see it all come together and be presented in a show.
I've really enjoyed the previous two years at college and I'm excited to continue to study Fashion Design at Uni in September!
